FARGO — A handgun was confiscated from a student Friday at Fargo North High School, according to a news release from Fargo Public Schools.
The school district said a teacher suspected a student was under the influence of marijuana and had administrators search the student's backpack where they found a .380 caliber handgun that was not loaded.
No ammunition was found on the student or in his locker, according to the release. The gun is now in possession of the Fargo Police Department.

No drugs were found during the search and the school said it is working with police to determine if any other students were involved.
The student was placed on an indefinite suspension and was taken into custody by police, according to the news release.
The school said there is no connection between this incident and the incident earlier in September where the school investigated a possible shooting threat after a student reported a suspicious message carved into a desk. School administrators determined the threat was not credible.
