Three people are dead after an SUV rolled over and crashed Thursday afternoon near Hysham, Montana, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.
An SUV registered out of North Dakota was traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near mile marker 66 when it had contact with another westbound SUV, said MHP Trooper Scott McDermott.
Afterward, the North Dakota vehicle rolled through the median and came to a stop in the eastbound left lane. All three people in the car, two women and one man, died in the crash. Two of those people were ejected from the car as a result of the crash, McDermott said.
It's still unclear if the contact with the other SUV sent the vehicle rolling or if the crash was somehow related to the reaction of the North Dakota vehicle's driver after the initial contact between the two vehicles, according to McDermott.
"There's no indication at this time that speed or alcohol were factors," McDermott said.
The crash occurred sometime after noon, possibly around 12:30 p.m., McDermott said.
The crash remains under investigation, he said.
