West River Telecom, the local phone and communication cooperative headquartered in Hazen serving communities in North and South Dakota will hold its annual meeting June 2 at the Hazen High School gym.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with free lunch and health screenings. Beulah High School jazz vocalists will perform prior to the start of the meeting.
Members can vote for directors from two of the co-op’s districts. Mark Nygard and Gene Wolf, both of Hazen, are running for the District 7 board position. Frank Brown, of Glen Ullin, is running unopposed in District 4.
Co-op managers and the board will present annual reports on the co-op’s status.
Cashback capital credit checks, representing 10 percent of every dollar spent by a member the previous year, plus any remaining balance from 2003, will be mailed to co-op members prior to the annual meeting. Total cash payout this year will exceed $5.8 million.
The co-op continues its schedule to provide its service area with fiber optic cable. About 3,000 miles of fiber cable have been plowed so far, with a goal of 5,000 miles and 100 percent coverage in 2018. Fiber is currently being installed in the Hazen, New Salem and Mobridge, S.D., areas and being prepped in the Washburn, Underwood, Solen and McLaughlin, S.D., areas.
