New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker will campaign with North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp in Mandan and on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation Friday.

The visit will come a day after former Vice President Joe Biden will help Heitkamp launch a statewide bus tour in Fargo. She's seeking a second term in a reliably red state and facing a challenge from Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer.

The first event with Booker is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Friday at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 300 in Mandan. He'll also appear at the Administrative Service Center in Fort Yates at 11 a.m. Former North Dakota Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad is scheduled to appear at both events.

Speaking to reporters after voting in Mandan Wednesday, Heitkamp said Booker was her "best ally on the left" in repealing the ban on oil exports, which she has touted as top legislative accomplishment.

A former mayor of Newark, N.J., Booker is considered to be a potential 2020 presidential candidate.

"He's somebody who has run a city, he understands that ideology doesn't always match with getting things done," Heitkamp said, calling his visit "an act of friendship."

Booker is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and was a visible and vocal figure in the fight against Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. Heitkamp voted against Kavanaugh, citing sexual assault allegations against him and his temperament in denying the accusations.

Cramer portrayed Booker as a "radical left" politician whose visit will serve as a "great reminder" of the Kavanaugh confirmation.

Heitkamp said anyone who "doesn't admit that that process was fatally flawed from the beginning, I think, is not paying very close attention to what went on in the Judiciary Committee."
