Walter William Perleberg was born to Herman and Elvina (Buetow) Perleberg on July 6, 1922, at the family farm near Buchanan. He attended school near Buchanan until his family moved to Maynard, Minn., in 1938. They moved back to North Dakota in 1940.
In 1944, Walt joined the K&K orchestra as the accordion player. He went on to play with various bands including Melody Kings, Burleson Orchestra, Knight Riders, The Playboys and The 3 W’s. Walt loved music all of his life and was often singing or humming a tune.
Walt met the love of his life, Edna Boschee, in 1943 at a dance in Jamestown. Walt and Edna were united in marriage on Aug. 26, 1945, at Edna’s parents’ home near Wishek.
The couple moved to their farmstead near Eldridge in 1948 where they farmed and raised cattle, hogs and chickens. The farmstead is also where they raised their five children together. Walt resided on this very farmstead up until his passing.
Walt loved farming, hunting, fishing and mowing his yard. He was always telling jokes, reciting poems, verses, prayers, and enjoyed watching his favorite polka shows and Cowboy Church on television. He lived his life with a continuous smile on his face and the most loving heart. Walt was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
