Rose was born March 14, 1931, near Anamoose, the eighth of 10 children born to Fred and Emma (Schacher) Kessler. She married Melvin Koenig on June 3, 1950, in McClusky. They made their home in Riverdale for thirty years. Following Melvin’s retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1980, they moved into Underwood. Melvin passed away in 1998 and Rose continued to make her home in Underwood until May of this year.
Rose was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Underwood and later with the Faith Evangelical Church. She enjoyed cooking and fellowship at the Underwood Senior Center. The joy of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her children with all four of her sons serving their country in the U.S. military, following in the footsteps of their father.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Faye (Dale) Foreman, Watford City; sons, Mark (Kim) Koenig, Riverdale, Michael (Ann) Koenig, Wheatland, Wyo., Miles (Chong Hye) Koenig, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Edward Koenig, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Kris (Abigail), Brandon, Christina (Joe), Sandra, Matthew, Katie (Bill), Scott, Aaron, and Mark; five great-grandchildren, Payton, Campbell, Greyson, Ethan, and Briggs; one sister, Helen (Chuck) Rogness, Sun City, Ariz.; and one brother-in-law, Doyle Koenig, Garrison.
