Maxine Burdine

Maxine “Max” Elizabeth Burdine, 64, of Bismarck, passed away quietly with family March 9, 2019, at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Ehrmantraut officiating. Visitation is the one hour prior to the service at the church.

Maxine was born Feb. 1, 1955, in Bismarck, to Benjamin and Alice (Faust) McCay. She was raised and educated in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School. After graduation, Maxine moved to Loveland, Colo., until moving back to Bismarck in 1991, to be with family.

During her time in Colorado, Maxine worked mainly in offices or retail management. Her most fond occupational memories, however, were as an over-the-road truck driver. Maxine often reminisced and told stories of the times she had driving and took great pride in her successes, skills and abilities being a woman in a predominantly male profession.

She was an extremely kind, loving, caring and free-spirited person, with a very giving heart. She would give you the shirt off her back and wouldn’t think twice about it. She would welcome anyone from any and all walks of life into her home with immediate love and openness. All who encountered her loved her attitude and flair for life.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin, not to mention the countless others throughout her life that called her “mom,” “sis,” or “Ant Maxi.”

She always enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to be the life of the party wherever she went. She enjoyed camping and dancing with her husband, John. She took immense pride in being a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her most cherished moments were spending time with her family, kids and grandkids blowing bubbles, coloring and playing as she was the biggest kid at heart.

She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Elsabeth Burdine; sons, Kyle (Tanya) and Ethan (Kersten) Burdine; father, Ben McCay; sisters, Margaret (Kenny) Smidt, Medora (Ben) Nelson and Selma (Bob) Kerzman; brother, Bob (Beverly) McCay; grandchildren, Brock, Devon, Ryder, Cole, and Jillian; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maxine was preceded in death by her mother, Alice; grandson, Kalis; niece, Elizabeth; brother-in-law, Blake; and mother-in-law, Mildred Busse.
