Max Widenhoefer, 85, passed away April 7, 2019, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin.
Max was born on Sept. 22, 1933, in Elgin. He was son of Reverend Ernest Widenhoefer and Margaret Durkop. Max attended school in Elgin and joined the Army 1953. He was stationed at Fort Sheridan, north of Chicago, Ill., where he met his first wife, Mary Lou Hurtt, in 1955. They had five children: Ernest, Don, Bruce, Craig, and Annette. He was employed as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority.
After a divorce, Max moved back to Bismarck. He met his second wife, Janice Mess, and they were married on Sept. 22, 1984. Jan recently passed away in June 2018. Max and Jan enjoyed camping, fishing, taking car rides and their condo. Max was very proud of his collection of tools.
Max was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sisters, Elaine Reinke and Martha Eisenbarth.
