Funeral services for Luella Baesler, 83, of New Leipzig, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig. The Rev. John Amundson will officiate, and following a time of luncheon and fellowship, burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.
Luella, daughter of Jacob and Magdalina (Schock) Wolf, was born near Elgin on Oct. 13, 1935. Her large family consisted of seven sisters and two brothers.
Luella was married to Richard Baesler July 18, 1954, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Elgin by the Rev. Rudolph Heupel, uncle of Luella’s mother. They lived on the family farm North of New Leipzig. In February 1961, they purchased the oil company from William Kautz and named it Baesler Oil Co. In 2004, Luella sold the property to Gary Tietz. Luella and Richard had one daughter, Sheila.
Luella graduated from Elgin High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Dickinson State College. Luella taught in various country schools in Grant County for about seven years, including Old Leipzig, Carl Zimmerman School, Ray Will School and Antelope School. Luella started teaching at New Leipzig Public School in 1963 and taught there for 34 years until her retirement in 1997 after a total of 41 years.
Luella enjoyed visiting with family and friends and was always willing to help in any way that she could. She also was involved with the restoration of Trinity Lutheran Church, which is a symbol of religious faith and the early pioneer’s determination and endurance.
Luella passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jim Ferderer, New Leipzig; brother, Rudy (Mary) Wolf, Bismarck; sisters, Lorraine Weikum and Leona (James) Ulrich, Elgin, Alverna (Clarence) Veitz, Bismarck, and Delores Bader, Grand Forks; and sister-in-law, Sharron Wolf, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Baesler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernetta and Clarence Tietz, Darlene and Robert Nagel, Bernice and Lewis Thompson, and Meinhardt Bader, and Claudina, in infancy; brothers, Jacob F. Wolf and an infant brother.
