Lavern K. Roth, 79, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Glen Ullin, passed away Feb. 5, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.
Services for Lavern will be held at 1 p.m. CST, Friday, Feb. 16, at First Congregational UCC, Glen Ullin, with The Rev. Gaylund Olson officiating. Burial will be take place in the Glen Ullin Cemetery.
Visitation for Lavern will be from 3 to 5 p.m. CST, Thursday at First Congregational UCC, with a prayer service being held at 4 p.m. CST.
Lavern was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Glen Ullin, the son of August and Esther (Hintz) Roth. Growing up, he attended school through the seventh grade. On Aug. 1, 1964, Lavern married Grace Palloch in St. James Catholic Church in Porcupine. They were blessed with a son, Todd Alan and daughter, Lisa Marie. Lavern worked in construction most of his life, working for Weinberger Construction in N.D. and Mont. Lavern also worked for ranchers in N.D. for many years. Lavern and Grace moved to Tacoma in 1976, where he built homes, retiring in 2001.
Lavern enjoyed wood working, spending time with family and friends, having breakfast and lunch with his friends, and watching western TV programs. He will be remembered as a compassionate man who had an infectious laugh and cared about everyone. Lavern will be missed by so many.
Lavern is survived by his wife, Grace, Tacoma; son, Todd (Kay) Roth, Mandan; daughter, Lisa (Eric) Roth-Van Horn, Tacoma; grandchildren, DeAnn (Ben) Dingus, Christopher Roth, Matthew Lokken and Desiree Uttke, Kevin and Kyle (Megan) Brothers, Keaton and Landon Van Horn; five great-grandchildren; brother, Roland (Marilyn) Roth, Flasher; sisters, Carol Marten, Whitefish, Mont., and Elda Mae Griese, Centralia, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Esther Roth; brothers, Marvin, Harlan, and Harold Roth; sister, Diane Schriock.
