Johnnie Oscar Krueger, 80, Bismarck, passed away Aug. 18, 2018, at home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, Mandan, with The Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held an hour before the service at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
Johnnie was born on April 7, 1938, in Fredonia, to Oscar and Bertha (Burkley) Krueger. He was raised and educated in Fredonia. In his early years, he farmed, custom combined and did carpentry work with his dad. On July 22, 1961, in Wishek, he married Sandra Krein. They moved to Hammond, Ind., where he worked for Allied Auto Supply. They moved to Bismarck in 1967, where he worked as a grounds keeper for the State Capitol, until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed 23 years of retirement, but didn’t sit still. He enjoyed woodworking and making a variety of church bird houses, diamond willow canes and jewelry boxes that he would sell at craft shows. He also enjoyed doing gold prospecting in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra; daughter, Tina (Eric) Thompson, Bismarck; son, Reno Krueger, Sidney, Mont.; two sisters, Shirley Vogel, Kulm, and Judy Woody, Twin Falls, Idaho; two grandchildren, Zach Thompson and Kelsey Krueger; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Donna (Elton) Hehr, Betty Krueger, John Woody and Lawrence Vogel.
