Joan Pegors, 69, Sterling, died Jan. 8, 2019, at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center after a courageous fight with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Sterling United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marlin Sapp officiating. Burial will be held at Sterling Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Joan was born Oct. 19, 1949, in Jackson, Minn., to Roscoe and Bernice (Moen) Oskerson. She married Leroy Pegors in Fairmont, Minn., on Oct. 26, 1967. They moved to Denver after getting married and then to Sterling in 1974.
Joan worked at Top's Cafe in Sterling for many years. She worked in banking at Norwest Bank, United Bank, and Kirkwood Bank and Trust and enjoyed talking with customers and co-workers.
Joan's great joy was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She attended many of their swim meets, football games, wrestling matches, dance recitals, figure skating shows, and school events.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy, Sterling; son, Eric (Sarah) Pegors, Fargo; daughter, Aimee (Corey) Swartwout, Minot; grandchildren, Marlee and Lauren Pegors, Ashlee, Hunter, Andrew and Brenna Swartwout; sisters, Beverly Holmgren and Norma Olson; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dave and Patty Ennen and Nadine Mittleider.
She was preceded in death by her son, Marlyn; four sisters, Wanda Bannister, Linda Knutson, Jean Banashak and Rachael Oskerson; and her parents.
