Memorial service for Idelle Olson, 91, Hettinger, will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger, with Pastor Kathleen Dettmann officiating. Cremation will take place and burial will be in the Hettinger Cemetery at a later date.

Idelle Evangeline Hanna was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Bucyrus, to Martin and Dena (Tangbakken) Hanna. She was baptized in the Bucyrus Lutheran church and confirmed in the Lead, S.D., Lutheran church. She attended country schools in Perkins Co., S.D., and Lawrence Co., S.D. She attended two years of high school in Deadwood, S.D., then graduated from Provo High School in Igloo, S.D. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, S.D., and taught at the Ellingson, S.D., school.

She met Ellsworth Olson at a dance in Bucyrus, and they were married on Aug. 30, 1946. They spent most of their married life on the farm north of Hettinger. For a short time, Ellsworth ran a bowling alley in New Town and they owned Hettinger Coast to Coast store, but always ended up back on the farm.

Two children were born to this union, Lauren and DiAnne. Lauren was married to Frances Braaten and they had one son, Brandon. Lauren is now married to Margie Hoskins and they live in Hettinger. DiAnne lives in Austin, Texas.

Idelle was a helpmate and all-around “gofer” on the farm until Ellsworth’s health began to fail and she went to work in town. First at the Town Shop and then Di’ Anns. She was appointed Adams County Treasurer in 1991, then elected to two more terms. She retired from the Treasurer’s office in 2001. Retirement was boring, so she took a couple waitress jobs then went to work as cook’s helper at the Senior Citizen’s Center in 2004. Idelle was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and past president of the Eagle’s Auxiliary. She was a 50-year member of the Hettinger Congregational Church and served as church treasurer since 1998.

Ellsworth and Idelle enjoyed bowling and golfing for many years. In recent years, her greatest joy was visiting DiAnne in Texas and golfing with Lauren whenever they got together.

Idelle passed away on Nov. 28, 2018, at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, DiAnne Olson; son, Lauren and his wife Margie; her grandson, Brandon Olson, Hastings, Minn.; brother-in-law, Everett Olson; his wife, Mary, Minot; 14 nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth; her parents; brothers, Wayne, John, and Martin Olson, Donald, who died in infancy; and sister-in-law, Alma Olson.
