Eugene Albert Messmer, 68, passed away Oct. 5, 2019 at his home in Bismarck. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, 4614 Memorial Hwy., Mandan.
Gene was born to Victor and Clara Messmer on Oct. 4, 1951, in Dickinson. He was raised and educated in Mott. He originally received his HVAC certification and then went on to graduate from the University of Mary with a B.S. degree in business management. He worked for SuperValu Warehouse for many years and later in life started his own landscaping business.
In his spare time, he was passionate about working on small engines, fixing things, and remodeling houses. He was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Throughout the years he enjoyed helping his kids with school projects, sports, extracurriculars, and fixing their numerous car issues.
He is survived by his father, Victor Messmer, Glen Ullin; daughter, Marcey (Chad) Bartosh, Mandan; son, Drew (Benton Crooke) Messmer, Fargo; sisters, Carrie (Mike) Gerving, and Vicki (Wynn) Jessop; brothers, Terry (Linda) Messmer, Tim (Jim French) Messmer; grandchildren, Taylor and Kylee Bartosh; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Gene was proceeded in death by his mother, Clara; daughter, Desiree; and son, Chad.
