Ernest F. Meiers, 96, Bismarck, formerly of Rapid City, S.D., passed away July 13, 2019, under the comfort care of CHI St. Alexius. Per Ernest's request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place and internment and private family service will be held at later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Ernie was born March 21, 1923, to Fred and Marcella Meiers in Rushville, Neb. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1940 and participated in a local CCC program. He enlisted in the U.S Navy, attended radio school in San Diego and served on the USS Essex in the Pacific during World War II. He was a Life Member of the VFW, and served many years in their Honor Guard.

After the war, Ernie returned to Nebraska and began his career with the CNW Railroad as a telegrapher. He married Patricia Olson in Belle Fourche, S.D., in 1946. He held various positions during a 37-year career with the railroad and retired in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and spending time with family.
Ernie is survived by daughters, Beverly (Conrad) Hillman, Bismarck, and Debra Meiers, Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandsons, Matt (Deidre) Hillman, and Nick (Nicole) Hillman; and three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Harper and Olivia.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 2002; and his sister, Elsie Uldrickson.
