Delton Duane Hofer, 84, Mandan, passed away May 28, 2019, at Sanford Health, Bismarck.
Please join us for a celebration of his life at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services, 4614 Memorial Highway, Mandan. Bring any pictures and stories you would like to share.
Delton, the son of Reinhold and Olga (Birst) Hofer, was born March 14, 1935, in Turtle Lake, where he attended a nearby country school, then Turtle Lake High School, graduating in 1953.
With his first wife he had four daughters, Valerie, Vickie, DeeAnn and Dorie. Valerie passed away in 1967. Then, in 1970 he married Jeanette (Schmidt) Moon. She brought three little boys to the family, Gary, Wally and Don, making us a bit like the Brady Bunch!
For 34 years, Del worked as a state tax collector in Bismarck, retiring in 1999. In addition, he was a talented musician who played lead guitar and sang with many area bands for over 55 years. He spent 16 years with Rocky and the Happy Valley Gang traveling all over the western states and Canada playing polka fests. He and Jeanette made great friends and great memories during that time.
He was an avid sports fan and attended every softball game the boys played. He enjoyed watching baseball and basketball on TV and we’re pretty sure he memorized all the lines in every episode of Gunsmoke!
Del is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanette; daughters, Vickie Hill, Turtle Lake, DeeAnn (Kent) Slade, Provo, Utah, Dorie Fiser, Orcutt, Calif.; sons, Gary Moon, Mandan, Wally Moon, Cole Harbor, Don (Lisa) Moon, Mosinee, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); sisters-in-law, Verdean Hofer, Turtle Lake, Sharon (Tom) Haag, Center, and Donna Zander, Mandan; brother-in-law, Harry (Judy) Schmidt, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie; his parents; his brother, Rodney; and his parents-in-law.
