David Lloyd Heller, 63, Fargo, passed away unexpectedly May 14, 2018, in his home.
Dave was born May 7, 1955, in Fargo, to Lloyd and Doreen (Gregor) Heller. He grew up in Leonard on the Heller farm, sparking his lifelong love of agriculture and farming. During his school years he excelled in baseball, basketball, and track. He graduated from Leonard High School in 1973 and completed his education at North Dakota State University in 1977 with a degree in agronomy. While at NDSU, he played on the Bison baseball team and was a member of the TKE fraternity.
Farming with his father, Lloyd, in Leonard, was one of Dave’s greatest joys. He also worked across the region at Pro-Lawn, Fargo, Community Co-op, Perley, Minn., Triangle Ag Services, Ulen, Minn., Con-Agra fertilizer plant in Moorhead, Minn., and most recently at Plains, Grains & Agronomy in Enderlin. Dave was looking forward to his retirement in June 2018 after one last spring planting season.
He married Betty Idso on July 14, 1979, and they made their home in Fargo. To this union they had two sons, Jared and Zach. He married Anne (Mettler) Heid on Sept. 7, 2010, at Grandin Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Fargo.
Gathering together with family to laugh, eat, and reminisce was Dave’s favorite thing to do. “Papa” Dave’s best days were the days he spent with grandsons Jake and Logan. In recent years, two rescue cats, Sammy and Mitsi, also took up a special place in his heart. Hobbies Dave enjoyed over the years were league bowling, golfing with his sons, and following Bison football as well as other sports teams.
