Her father died at a young age and her mother raised Barbara and her sister while working, relying on assistance from the girls’ grandparents. Barbara had many fond memories of her grandparents, John and Bertha Larson.
She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1946, then attended Bismarck Junior College. She was united in marriage to James P. Murdoch in Anchorage, Alaska, July 7, 1948. Barbara received her bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Mary in 1971. She worked for the John Larson Company and Electronic Center, then finished her career with the North Dakota Employment Security Bureau (now Job Service).
Barbara married Boyd Clemens in 1981, and besides enjoying reading and fishing, she and Boyd traveled across the United States every summer in their fifth-wheel camper, visiting friends and family. During the winter months, they made their home in Apache Junction, Ariz. Barb and Boyd returned to Bismarck in 2013, making their home first at the Primrose Retirement Community, then at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
She is survived by her son, Marshall (Marilyn) Murdoch, Bismarck; her daughters, Lynn (Paul) Larson, South Elgin, Ill., and Janet (James) Geltel, Williston; her stepdaughters, Sharon (Jerry) Dowhy and Judy Pedersen, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Kristin (Larry) Larson, James (Stephanie) Murdoch, Richard (Carina Wong) Larson, James Larson, Brent (Katie) Larson, Eric (Beth McCubbin) Larson, Kathryn (Michael) Shatto, Beth (David) Hokanson, Ryan (Tara) Geltel, and Allen (Emily Ramage) Geltel; and 11 great-grandchildren.
