A Mandan student is framed in the frosty window of a school bus on Thursday afternoon. With below zero temperatures covering the state, coupled with a minus 31 below zero wind chill in the Bismarck and Mandan area, many residents stayed indoors.

Williston broke its record low on Friday morning as temperatures dipped down to minus 43 degrees. The previous record was minus 41 degrees set in 1899, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck.

Residents in Bismarck saw a low of minus 28 degrees on Friday morning. A wind chill warning is in place through noon Saturday. High temperatures are expected to rise above zero degrees beginning Monday.
