A semitrailer hauling an oversize load became stuck in an Interstate 94 construction zone and backed up traffic for miles during the Tuesday afternoon rush hour in the Bismarck-Mandan area.

The semi hauling farm equipment became stuck in the one-lane zone on the bridge at Exit 155 westbound into Mandan shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Highway Patrol.

Traffic eventually was diverted back onto I-94 westbound. The oversize load was backed up through the construction zone and was able to cross on the closed side of the bridge. Exit 155 was closed for about half an hour.

Semi driver Robert Berger, of Richardton, was cited for operating without an oversize permit.
