Five candidates will be considered for the position of Bismarck city attorney, following Charlie Whitman’s recent announcement he will be retiring this summer, after 30 years working with the city.

The five finalists — Jannelle Combs, attorney, Combs Law Office; Brian Grosinger, assistant state’s attorney, Morton County; Jason Hammes, assistant city attorney, Bismarck; Hope Hogan, assistant attorney general, N.D. Office of the Attorney General; and Matthew Sagsveen, solicitor general, N.D. Office of the Attorney General — will be interviewed by members of the Bismarck City Commission at a special meeting on Thursday.

Interviews will include an exercise designed to assess the candidates' leadership and management skills.
