Bismarck’s former Saxvik Elementary School will soon be home to Inspire Family Fellowship, which currently holds its church services at Baymont Inn & Suites, Mandan.

On Tuesday, the Bismarck City Commission approved a zoning change that would allow for the adaptive reuse of the former school, 523 N. 21st St., for a religious facility and ancillary uses.

“We’ve discovered it’s no small thing to buy a school and try and change its use,” said Inspire Family Fellowship Pastor Randy Upgren. “It is our intention, as a church, to really be good neighbors. We want our neighborhood to be glad we’re there.”

Inspire Family Fellowship, which is purchasing the property from Bismarck Public Schools, intends to convert the existing gymnasium into a sanctuary space and provide for ancillary uses, such as religious education and fellowship areas.

The existing outdoor play area will be removed to allow for 81 spaces of off-street parking.
