Zombies to be out Saturday night in Mandan

The living dead will shuffle through the streets of downtown Mandan this Saturday.

There’s no need to panic, however, the Bisman Bombshellz have it under control.

The Bombshellz, the local roller derby team, are inviting locals decked in their best zombie gear to join them in downtown Mandan for the Nightmare on Main Street Zombie Pub Crawl V.

“There are zombies everywhere and everyone is there to celebrate a love of costumes and the Halloween season,” said Christy Dirk-Senn, who has attended numerous crawls. “It's a fun way to get out and spend time with friends in a unique way.”

The crawl is the brainchild of Christina Biesecker, a member of the Bombshellz, who brought the idea to life about five years ago when the team was looking for fundraising ideas.

“I decided to organize a Zombie Pub Crawl because I have many friends that live in big cities and they always have a blast at these types of events,” she said. “I thought, ‘Why not have one here?’”

The crawl started out with 20 friends, but attendance has nearly doubled each year, said Biesecker. Last year, 200 zombies participated.

This year's crawl is structured differently to accommodate the growing number of zombies, said Biesecker. Instead of setting a specific start time and location, zombies are encouraged to wander among the participating bars at their leisure throughout the day.

"It is our hope that with no set start/finish time or location people will move in groups throughout the night," said Biesecker. She anticipates most people will begin the crawl around 8 p.m.

Participating bars include: Vicky's Sports Bar, Old Town Tavern, Last Call Bar, O.N.E. theater, Moscow Bar, Westside Bar and Grille/Mulligans Lounge and Stage Stop Saloon. Some of the bars also will be featuring live music.

Participants can purchase a koozie and five drink tickets for $20, on crawl day, from the Bombshellz. Tickets are available at Dykshoorn Park in Mandan from 12 - 2 p.m. and 5 -9 p.m. on Saturday. Purchasing tickets is not mandatory.
