The temporary road demonstration projects in downtown Mandan are being removed and should be gone by Aug. 17. The pop-up projects included curb extensions, mini roundabouts and more visible crosswalks at intersections along the 400 block of Main Street and First Street Northwest. The public can continue to provide input on the demonstration projects through Sept. 7.
Temporary road closures at the intersection of Main Street and Third and Fourth Avenues Northwest, along with First Street Northwest and Third and Fourth Avenues Northwest will take place during the removal of these projects.
The demonstration projects were designed to test potential street improvements that would make these intersections more pedestrian-friendly while keeping vehicular traffic moving, according to Kari Moore, program coordinator for the city's Business Development and Communications Department.
Pop-up demonstrations ultimately save money by allowing communities to test changes before investing permanently, according to Moore. For more information about the projects and to provide input via a survey, visit www.cityofmandan.com/demonstrationproject.
