A Bismarck law firm is relocating to Mandan, after receiving approval from the Mandan City Commission for Renaissance Zone tax incentives to renovate a former doctor’s office, located at 107 First Ave. N.W., into professional office space.
Redmann Law, P.C., a boutique law firm concentrating in family and criminal defense law, is purchasing the building and estimates it will cost about $350,000 for interior and exterior updates.
Built in 1931, the historic two-story building will receive new windows and doors, a new front stoop, a new gutter system, updates to the gable fascia, repairs to existing brick masonry and the addition of a ramp to the back entrance.
Asbestos and hazardous materials will be removed from the building’s interior, and an additional staircase and accessible restrooms will be added. Existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems will be brought up to today’s standards for code.
Mandan residents Kristin and Chris Redmann own the law firm, which has been in business since 2013. Along with three full-time employees, they currently operate out of a suite at the Wells Fargo building in Bismarck.
The Redmanns are seeking other professionals, such as lawyers, architects and accountants, to join them in the new Mandan location.
“They do have a law firm that has indicated intent to move into the building with them, and they're looking for other additional occupants,” said Ellen Huber, Mandan's business development director.
As an approved Renaissance Zone project, the law firm will receive a five-year property tax exemption, with an estimated benefit of $32,350, and a five-year state income tax exemption, estimated at $19,085.
The Redmanns also will receive about $24,000 in matching funds from the Mandan Growth Fund for their storefront improvement project.
“We’re looking forward to bringing our business to downtown Mandan,” Chris Redmann said.
