Armstrong Sanitation will be dropping off new garbage totes the week of Nov. 13 to every Mandan household that receives curbside and alley garbage collection as part of a new service agreement.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, only household garbage in authorized Armstrong totes will be picked up. Trash in other containers, cans or bags will be left on the curb.
Homeowners can expect to see a tote fee of 50 cents per month on their utility bill in the new year. In addition, monthly household fees will increase 5 cents annually for the next 10 years.
Totes are 96 gallons in size. Residents have the option to request a 64-gallon tote instead by calling 701-663-8219 prior to Nov. 13. An additional tote may be requested at a fee of $42 annually.
Homeowners are expected to keep their totes in good condition and, if lost, there will be a $90 replacement charge for a new one.
Each tote is assigned to a specific location with a serial number and global positioning system chip. If a resident moves, the tote remains at the home.
Dumpsters for disposal of unwanted garbage cans will be available Nov. 13 through March 4 at the grass and tree branch collection site at the dog park near Eighth Avenue Southeast and Highway 1806 South.
