Residents of Lincoln are being told to boil their water before drinking it, after a water main break disrupted the city supply.

The loss of pressure due to the break Tuesday afternoon led to the health risk, the city said. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that might be in the water.

Only bottled water should be used for preparing infant formula, officials said.

Anyone who suffers symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps or nausea after drinking water is urged to contact a doctor.

The city is continuing to monitor the condition of the water distribution system.
