Gov. Doug Burgum and first lady Kathryn Burgum are hosting their third annual event aimed at combating drug and alcohol addiction.
The event, called Recovery Reinvented, is scheduled Nov. 12 at the Bismarck Event Center.
The daylong event will include state and national addiction experts "focused on reinventing recovery by empowering communities to take action." It also will focus on creating "recovery friendly" workplace environments and eliminating stigma surrounding the disease of addiction.
There will be an "Empowerment Expo" that will connect people to various organizations and resources across the state. Awards also will be distributed to recognize people and groups making an impact in the field of addiction and recovery.
Speakers include Gary Mendell, the CEO of Shatterproof, a national nonprofit that provides services and information related to addiction; Carol McDaid, principal at Capitol Decision Inc., an organization with expertise in addiction and mental health policy; and Leander "Russ" McDonald, president of United Tribes Technical College.
