Former North Dakota Senate Minority Leader Mac Schneider will announce his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The former state senator from Grand Forks lost re-election 2016 to a third four-year term. He is an attorney with offices in Fargo and Grand Forks.

Schneider will visit Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck on Tuesday, weather permitting.

He joins a crowded field of Democratic and Republican candidates vying for their respective parties' endorsements in the House race.

State Sen. John Grabinger of Jamestown and former state Rep. Ben Hanson of West Fargo are also seeking the Democratic nod.

Republican House candidates include U.S. Marine Corps veteran Tiffany Abentroth, state Sen. Kelly Armstrong of Dickinson, state Sen. Tom Campell of Grafton, Duwayne Hendrickson and Paul Schaffner.

Incumbent Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., announced his intent last month to unseat incumbent Democrat Heidi Heitkamp in the U.S. Senate race.

North Dakota's Democratic-NPL state convention is March 15-18 in Grand Forks.

The Republicans' state convention is April 6-8 in Grand Forks.
