Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., speaks at a 2016 rally in support of law enforcement at the Capitol in Bismarck.

Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., will stay in Bismarck this week with family as his adult son remains hospitalized.

“While Isaac is improving, he remains in critical condition in a Bismarck hospital," the third-term congressman said in a statement Monday. "Therefore, I will not travel to Washington, D.C., for votes today and tomorrow. Instead, I am remaining in Bismarck with Isaac and the rest of my family.”

Isaac Cramer, 35, is hospitalized with kidney and liver failure due to an ongoing battle with alcoholism.

About a week before his son's hospitalization, Cramer announced his U.S. Senate run to unseat Democratic incumbent Heidi Heitkamp, reversing his decision last month to not enter the Senate race.

He and his wife, Kris, have five children and four grandchildren.
