Biden tapped as ND Dem-NPL keynote speaker

Former Vice President Joe Biden will headline the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Convention next month.

In a press release, Biden praised Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., as she seeks re-election to a second six-year term.

"Heidi lives and breathes North Dakota — she fights with every fiber of her being for rural America," Biden said. "Heidi has been a strong leader in the Senate and, most importantly, she gets the job done for the people she serves."

"Whether it was writing the Violence Against Women Act or fighting for good-paying jobs that can support a family, there’s no stronger advocate for working people than Vice President Biden," Heitkamp said in a statement. "I’m grateful for his generous support and look forward to welcoming him to North Dakota next month."

North Dakota Dem-NPL chair Kylie Oversen also praised Biden's record: "Vice President Biden has been a fighter for workers, families and retirees for his entire career — and whether he was serving in the U.S. Senate or in the White House, he never lost touch with his working-class roots."

Biden, who has said he will keep his options open as he considers a run for president in 2020, will speak March 17 at the convention held in Grand Forks. Other guests include former North Dakota Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and former Rep. Earl Pomeroy.

The 2018 North Dakota Democratic-NPL Convention is set for March 15-18.
