Garrison Dam

Highway 200 crosses the spillway area on Garrison Dam. Mandan’s Water Treatment Plant Superintendent said, in 2016, the dam has a "good quality source of water."

Water releases from Garrison Dam are scheduled to decline to 57,000 cubic feet per second beginning July 23, barring any major weather-related water events, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The reported level of discharge on Wednesday was at 60,100 cfs, a practice that was instituted on June 23 in response to record snowmelt in Montana that was making its way to the Missouri River.

Raised water levels on the river resulted in a move on June 26 by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department to establish an idle-speed-only restriction within 200 feet of the shoreline for boaters on the Missouri and Heart rivers in the Bismarck-Mandan area. Currently, the rule remain in effect.
