Fire destroys tack barn

Fire destroyed a tack barn at the Chad Berger ranch late Thursday afternoon near Mandan, but no people or animals were injured, said Tim Sheldon, assistant fire chief for the Mandan Rural Fire Department.

Around 4 p.m., about a dozen firefighters responded with five fire trucks to the bull ranch about seven miles south of Mandan along Highway 6.

“The fire was fully involved when we got there. We had to let it burn some before we could pull it apart,” Sheldon said of the 20-foot by 60-foot building. It stored saddles and possibly some antiques, he said.

Firefighters contained the blaze within a half-hour and monitored it until about 7:30 p.m. No other buildings, including the residence about 100 feet away, were damaged, Sheldon said.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but Sheldon said “it might have been some wire issues.”
