The lunch account numbers and lockers combinations for all students at Mandan High School were accidentally emailed to students and parents on Monday night.
According to a news release from Mandan Public Schools, an email was sent to students and their parents or guardians Monday night with second semester schedules. Unfortunately, the email contained schedules and information for all 1,024 students at the high school.
Superintendent Mike Bitz said it was "an honest mistake" due to human error. The email didn't contain grades, Social Security numbers or other private information, Bitz said.
The email did contain students' addresses, phone numbers, PowerSchool IDs and state Department of Public Instruction IDs. Bitz said the district quickly responded to the mistake and contacted EduTech, which oversees PowerSchool.
The school district doesn't believe student information was misused, but will be reissuing student lunch account numbers and randomizing locker combinations.
The ID for the Department of Public Instruction is a "unique state identifier" used only by the department, according to MPS. The PowerSchool ID still requires a separate login and password to access the PowerSchool account.
