A woman has been found dead in McLean County, on the Fort Berthold Reservation, but the county sheriff has no information about the case.
Sheriff Don Charging explained the woman was a tribal member and disappeared within the boundaries of the Fort Berthold Reservation. Charging’s department does not have jurisdiction over tribal members on the reservation, even though part of the reservation is located in McLean County.
The police chief of the Three Affiliated Tribes law enforcement agency did not return a message left seeking information about the case.
According to missing posters circulated online, the woman disappeared from a Roseglen bar on March 5. The posters identify her as Robin Fox. No one with Charging’s department was contacted about the situation until some tribal members called him on Sunday about a search.
“That’s the only reason I found out about it,” Charging said.
The woman’s body was found on the property of a non-tribal member, so a deputy responded and called the coroner, the sheriff said. He did not have the woman’s name or any other details of the case, since it was deemed a tribal matter.
“That was the extent of our involvement,” he said.
Charging said lack of communication with tribal officials is nothing new. He said assistance from his agency may have expedited the search for the woman.
