Pipe bomb found near Hebron

The Bismarck Police Department’s bomb squad destroyed a pipe bomb located near Hebron earlier this week.

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman said a Hebron woman showed a deputy the device she had located near Kreig’s Pond. The deputy believed the PVC-and-metal device might be a pipe bomb, so he transported it out of town and called for assistance from the bomb squad.

Shipman said the bomb squad confirmed the device was a homemade pipe bomb, and officers destroyed it with a water cannon.

The sheriff said officers do not know where the device came from, and there are no leads. It appeared someone had attempted to detonate the device before it was found, he said.

The same deputy who was shown the pipe bomb found a sparkler bomb on Highway 1806 a few months ago, Shipman said.
