Bismarck police are investigating a fight at the Kirkwood Mall that reportedly involved many people and led to the arrest of one.
Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena said five officers responded around 4 p.m. Friday to a fight in progress outside a store in the mall. The caller said about 20 people were fighting.
When police arrived, a mall security officer was holding down a 27-year-old Bismarck man who police later arrested for disorderly conduct and marijuana possession, according to Buschena.
The man was "agitated and extremely uncooperative," according to Buschena, but told police he got in a fight with eight other people "over something on Snapchat."
Officers talked to a 21-year-old Bismarck who was with him who had a "golf ball-sized welt" and a cut below his eye. The 21-year-old man also said the fight started "over something on Snapchat."
Buschena said three other people nearby with injuries to their hands and fingers would not explain their involvement.
When the 27-year-old man proceeded to yell profanities, he was arrested. Officers reportedly found a small amount of marijuana in his backpack.
He was taken to jail, according to Buschena, adding that police spoke with other individuals at the mall who were uncooperative and didn't want to press charges. A jail roster does not indicate the man is being held at Burleigh-Morton County Detention Center.
The fight brought the response of five Bismarck police officers, multiple mall personnel and led stores to close their security doors, according to Buschena.
The case is under investigation.
