The Mandan Police Department’s response to an open records request last spring was not made within a reasonable amount of time, though the response was slowed by an unintentional mistake, the attorney general’s office said.

The police department received a letter dated April 27 seeking records identifying a police officer assigned to a certain vehicle, according to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem. The request was lost within a stack of paperwork and not seen until June 24, after the department was contacted by Stenehjem's office.

The department responded on June 28 that no records existed for that request, and no further action is required, Stenehjem said.
