Dogs involved in attack euthanized

  • 0

Two pit bulls that attacked an adult and child in Mandan last month have been euthanized, according to city prosecutor Dan Nagle.

The dogs' owner, Antoinette Fleck, 49, of Mandan, "voluntarily agreed" to have the dogs put down on Friday, Nagle said. Fleck has been charged with violating Mandan's vicious dog ordinance and is awaiting an initial appearance hearing scheduled for Tuesday in South Central District Court.

The dogs were being held at Mandan's animal impound under a court order, according to Nagle.

The dogs attacked Christine Rebenitsch and her 7-year-old daughter, Faith Geiger, while they were walking near Second Street Northwest and 10th Avenue Northwest on July 22.

The attack has spurred a discussion among Mandan City Commission members, who are reviewing the city's vicious dog ordinance.
