A Bismarck woman pleaded guilty Monday to embezzling $8,000 from BNC Bank.

Katie Walter pleaded guilty to felony theft and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Walter was arrested on March 6 after she told the operations manager of the bank that she had stolen the money over the past two months to support her heroin habit, according to Bismarck police.

When she was arrested, officers found drug paraphernalia in her bra.

South Central District Judge David Reich handed down a three-year deferred imposition of sentence, meaning if Walter successfully completes probation and does not violate any criminal laws, the charges will be dismissed.

Walter must also complete recommended treatment and pay $8,000 in restitution, according to court records.
