The United States Marine Band will stop in Mandan on Oct. 12 as part of its national concert tour called "Our President's Own."
The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Mandan High School gym. The concert, sponsored by MHS, is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos and salute to the military, in the style of the band's 17th director John Philip Sousa, who started the concert tour tradition in 1891.
"We always try to highlight music on our programs that celebrates the region we are visiting, whether it be marches that provide a connection or folk music that might be associated with certain areas of the country,” band director Col. Jason K. Fettig said.
The tour is performing 29 concerts in 12 states, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Tickets are available starting Wednesday, with a limit of four per request, on www.marineband.ticketleap.com. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
