Charges have been filed against the man arrested Wednesday night after a four-hour standoff in northeast Bismarck.

Scott Brand Jr., 43, of Bismarck made his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon. He faces two counts of terrorizing, a class C felony, for allegedly pointing a gun at two adults and two children.

Brand was arrested late Wednesday after police were called to the 2500 block of Centennial Road on a report of a man pointing a semi-automatic rifle at neighbors. Brand’s girlfriend convinced him to give up his weapon and he went inside his home, Lt. Luke Gardiner said Thursday.

The West Dakota SWAT team used chemical munitions to get Scott to leave his residence. He was arrested about 11:22 p.m. Two rifles and a shotgun were seized at the scene, Gardiner said.

Brand’s bail was set at $5,000 cash or surety bond.
