A case against a Bismarck teen accused of shooting a woman in the chest has been transferred to district court.
Brandyn Manuel, 17, has been charged in South Central District Court with attempted murder for allegedly shooting an 18-year-old Mandan woman on Dec. 18.
According to a news release from the Bismarck Police Department, officers found the woman lying in the roadway at the Holiday Park mobile home community with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police said there was a disagreement between the woman and Manuel, which led to the shooting.
The order to transfer the case to district court states that testimony from Bismarck police Sgt. Mark Gaddis at a hearing on Jan. 29 "reflects (Manuel) acted with the kind of culpability otherwise required to commit murder."
According to the order: "Intent to kill was demonstrated by the use of a 9 mm handgun, the proximity of the shooting, the part of the victim's body that was shot, the serious injury that resulted and the child's spontaneous statements."
Manuel remains incarcerated.
