A teen involved in what was termed a riot at a Mandan correctional facility changed his pleas on 10 counts, eight of them felonies, at a Thursday appearance in adult court.
Elijah Barse pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, four counts of simple assault on a peace officer, terrorizing, conspiracy to commit escape and preventing arrest, along with two misdemeanor charges.
Barse, who court documents show was born in 2001, and three other teens were accused of injuring guards and trying to escape during the January 2018 incident at the Youth Correctional Center in Mandan. Barse in June pleaded not guilty to the charges and was scheduled for a jury trial in September.
South Central District Judge James Hill accepted the guilty pleas and ordered a presentence investigation.
