A motorcyclist involved in a crash last month in Bismarck has died.

Bismarck police Lt. Jeff Solemsaas said he was informed Saturday that the motorcyclist, Kelly J. Smith, 57, of Mandan, had died. Smith was transported to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo after the crash.

The crash occurred at about 4:26 p.m. Oct. 30 at the intersection of East Bismarck Expressway and East Divide Avenue.

Police say Sean Snyder, 33, of Bismarck, attempted to turn left from East Bismarck Expressway onto East Divide Avenue, when he turned in front of Smith, whose motorcycle struck the right rear corner of the SUV, knocking the SUV onto its side.

Police continue to investigate the collision and won't release further details until a crash reconstruction is complete, which will likely be done within the next week or two, according to Solemsaas.

A final report will be sent to the Burleigh County State's Attorney's office to determine whether to file criminal charges. Julie Lawyer, assistant state's attorney, said in an email on Monday that she will not be able to comment until the investigation is complete.
