Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota is looking to learn from the experiences of those who have opened their homes to provide kinship care for a grandchild, niece/nephew, relative’s child or close friend’s child.
These placements can typically be sudden and unplanned, so kinship caregivers may find themselves taking on this considerable responsibility without much preparation or support.
LSSND, in partnership with the North Dakota Department of Human Services, is engaged in a project to gather information on both the needs and challenges associated with kinship care from those who know it best: kinship caregivers themselves.
Focus groups are being held across the state to gather input.
• A Washburn-area gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 805 Main Ave., Washburn.
• A Bismarck-area gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the LSSND-Bismarck Program Center, 1616 Capitol Way.
To participate and to reserve your space (food will be served), contact Sue Grundysen at (701) 451-4940 or email SueG@lssnd.org.
