Three current assistant principals have been selected as replacements for the principals of Grimsrud, Northridge and Liberty elementary schools.
Matt Guenther, assistant principal at Rita Murphy Elementary School, Shonda Mertz, assistant principal at Sunrise Elementary School, and Jill Vallejo, the assistant principal at Lincoln Elementary School, have been selected to lead these schools. The former principals all resigned this school year.
Guenther, Mertz and Vellego have not yet been assigned a school, but will start their positions on July 1. Eleven candidates were interviewed for the positions, and 34 applied.
Guenther has been the assistant principal at Rita Murphy since 2017. He has a master's degree in elementary administration from the University of Mary, and another master's in curriculum and instruction, with an emphasis in STEM, from the University of Cincinnati.
Mertz has been the assistant principal at Sunrise since 2017. She was previously an instructional coach at Moses from 2013 to 2017 and the assistant principal at Northridge from 2012 to 2013. She has a master's degree in education from North Dakota State University.
Vallejo has been the assistant principal at Lincoln Elementary School since 2016 and previously served as an instructional coach at Solheim Elementary. She has a master's degree from Chapman University.
In addition, Haley Haugen, principal at Prairie View Elementary in New Salem, was selected as an elementary school assistant principal. Her school will be selected at a later date.
Haugen has been the principal at Prairie View since 2016, and she holds a master's degree from the University of North Dakota.
