Bismarck’s city attorney is reviewing police reports after a dog involved in an attack was stabbed and killed Thursday, said Bismarck Police Sgt. Tim Sass.

A man and his adult son were walking a dog, an American Eskimo breed, in the 1600 block of Pocatello Drive when another dog, a German Shepherd mix, crawled under a fence and attacked their dog about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sass said.

The owner of the Eskimo dog attempted to separate the animals, but the shepherd mix bit the man’s hand and would not release, Sass said.

The son pulled out a Leatherman knife and stabbed the attacking dog, police said. The shepherd mix died at the scene.

The man declined treatment from an ambulance that responded, Sass said.

The matter was referred to the city attorney for review.
