Kristin Ehrmantraut, a kindergarten teacher at Highland Acres Elementary School, has been named Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce's Primary Education Outstanding Teacher of the Year.

Ehrmantraut grew up in Bismarck, according to a new release. Her education includes a bachelor's degree in elementary and physical education, as well as a coaching minor. She also practices martial arts, and has earned multiple national medals.

Now in their 32nd year, the awards are based on nominations and given to teachers in elementary, secondary and higher education. Two elementary teachers, one in Bismarck and one in Mandan, are recognized. A total of five awards are handed out.

The Secondary Education Outstanding Teacher of the Year award in Mandan will be awarded on Friday.
