Bismarck police are investigating a shots fired incident Friday night near Memorial Highway.

Police responded to the 500 block of Memorial Highway at about 11:30 p.m. Friday for a report of an altercation involving firearms, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

Several shots were fired, however no injuries were reported, and officers searched the area and found an assault rifle believed to be involved in the incident, according to the post.

As of Sunday, police were still investigating, according to Sgt. Garner Jones.

"(We) don’t know if it was targeted or not, or just a random misfire," he said.

There were multiple witnesses, and there was an officer in the area who heard the gun go off, according to Jones.
